Internal Recruiting

What is internal recruiting?

Internal recruiting is the practice of filling an open role with someone who already works at the company before searching the external market. In Coodesh, it is a module of Skills Mapping: the platform matches the skills and levels a position requires against your employees' skills maps, shows who already fits, and brings them into a diagnosis and assessment in a single flow.

Companies often hire externally for skills they already have in house, because nobody can say with evidence who is ready for the role. Job titles say little about what people can actually do, and skills inventories live in outdated spreadsheets. With skills data, HR, People and team leads look at internal talent first and go to the market only for what is truly missing. Coodesh organizes the evidence. People on your team decide who moves forward.

  • Search employees by skill and proficiency level.
  • Invite one person by link or email, or many in bulk.
  • Skills diagnosis and hands-on assessment in the same flow.
  • Employee profiles sync with LinkedIn or a resume.

How internal hiring works in Coodesh

  1. Start from the position

Each position in a career path already lists its skills and the expected level for each one. It can also hold the job link and a linked technical assessment.

  2. Find who fits

Search employees by skills and level, then compare each person with the position's expected profile, strengths and gaps side by side.

  3. Invite them in

Send invites by link, by email or in bulk with a spreadsheet of names and emails.

  4. Assess and decide

Diagnosis and assessment run in the same flow. HR and team leads review the results and decide who moves into the role.

Features for skills-based internal mobility

The internal recruiting module builds on Skills Mapping to find, invite and assess the talent you already have.

  • Search by skill and level

Filter employees by the skills a position needs and by proficiency level, instead of relying on job titles, referrals or tenure.

  • Synced profiles

Employee profiles can sync with LinkedIn or a resume, so the search starts from up-to-date information.

  • Person vs. position comparison

A skills radar, strengths and gaps for each person against the open position, plus AI insights on who is ready for the next step.

  • Invites by link, email or in bulk

Invite one person at a time or a whole group at once by uploading a spreadsheet with names and emails.

  • Assessments in the same flow

Technical tests, role simulations, situational judgment, DISC, Big Five and AI-led interviews. DISC and Big Five are behavioral assessments that support decisions, not psychological tests.

  • A plan for people not ready yet

Gaps turn into an AI-generated action plan with recommended courses from your LMS and a reassessment to prove progress.

When to recruit internally

  • Before posting a role externally

Check whether someone in the company already covers the position's skills, and take only the missing requirements to the market.

  • Succession and promotions

See who is ready for each position based on assessment evidence, not perception alone. Leaders still make the call.

  • Moving people between teams

When a new project starts or a department changes size, find employees with the right skills to move across teams.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between internal and external recruiting?

Internal recruiting fills a role with someone who already works at the company, through a promotion, a transfer or a move to another team. External recruiting searches the market. With Coodesh you start inside: the platform compares employees with the position's skills and levels and shows who already fits. If nobody covers the requirements, the same skills profile of the position guides your external search.

How do you find internal candidates for a role?

With skills data, not just job titles and referrals. In Coodesh Skills, every position lists its skills and the expected level for each. The search matches those requirements against employees' skills maps, which combine self-assessment, manager review and hands-on tests. The comparator shows each person's strengths and gaps against the position, and AI points out who is ready for the next step.

Does the platform decide who gets the role?

No. Coodesh organizes the evidence: skills, levels, assessment results and gaps for each person. People on your HR and leadership teams decide who moves forward, who gets promoted and who changes teams. No employee is approved or rejected automatically. Everyone you invite is measured against the same criteria, with human review at every step.

How do employees get invited to an internal process?

By link, by email or in bulk. For a single invite you enter the person's full name and email. For bulk invites you download the template, fill in each person's name and email, and upload it as a CSV file. The platform checks the file and shows how many people can be invited before sending. The skills diagnosis and the assessment then happen in the same flow.

Does internal recruiting work with our HRIS and ATS?

Yes. Coodesh Skills offers standard connectors and MCP for HRIS, ATS and internal systems, plus API, Data Lake, SSO and SAML with automatic employee onboarding. Custom integrations are available on request. The internal recruiting module is part of the Coodesh Skills plan and follows GDPR and Brazil's LGPD, with privacy settings tailored to your company.
