Frequently Asked Questions

What is the DISC test and what is it used for in recruiting and selection?

DISC is a quick behavioral test that shows how a person tends to communicate, make decisions, and react under pressure, based on four profiles: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness. It doesn't measure whether someone can do the job. What it delivers is context: it helps you prepare a better interview, build balanced teams, and plan an onboarding that makes sense for that person. At Coodesh, DISC is in the Personality and Culture test library and can go into the same assessment as technical, logic, and language tests, in Portuguese, English, or Spanish.

Is DISC scientifically validated?

DISC is reliable for describing behavioral style, but science is much more cautious when it comes to predicting job performance. It's worth being honest about that. That's why Coodesh offers two instruments with different purposes: DISC, when you need a quick profile read and a language that managers and candidates understand right away, and Big Five, built on the IPIP-NEO-120, a public instrument derived from the NEO-PI-R and backed by decades of research, when the decision calls for more rigor. You can use both in the same assessment.

What's the difference between DISC and Big Five, and when should you use each?

DISC shows how a person usually acts; Big Five shows who they are. DISC takes about 10 minutes and gives you four behavioral patterns that are easy to discuss with any leader. Big Five takes longer, with 120 statements, and returns five personality traits (openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism) split into 30 facets. In practice: DISC to fine-tune communication, build teams, and give feedback; Big Five when you need depth, whether for people development or to better understand an entire team. Both are in Coodesh's Personality and Culture library.

Can I screen out candidates based on DISC?

That's not the idea, and the platform wasn't built for it. The DISC report on Coodesh is descriptive: there's no score, pass, or fail. If you turn on automatic tagging by score range in the assessment, it only considers tests that generate a score. That's on purpose. Cutting people based on behavioral profile creates real legal risk, both under Brazil's LGPD data protection law (automated decisions, article 20) and through discrimination unrelated to what the role requires. The approach that works is to bring DISC into the interview: dig into strengths, talk about areas of attention, and understand what stresses that person and how they deal with it.

Can the candidate game the DISC result?

Partly, yes, as with any test in which people answer about themselves. That's why DISC should never decide on its own. The Coodesh report separates the natural profile, which is how the person acts when the pressure is on, from the adapted profile, which is how they try to fit into the environment. When the two diverge a lot, you have a good starting point for the interview. And if you want to further reduce the effect of "people-pleasing" answers, combine DISC with a Coodesh skills test, which uses reversed items precisely to make autopilot answering harder.

How long does DISC take and what's in the report?

The Coodesh DISC takes about 10 minutes and can be answered on a phone. The report opens with a text summary of the person's profile, shows the percentage breakdown of the four factors, and indicates which one is predominant (it can be one, two, or even three combined factors). It then details key strengths and areas for improvement, communication, leadership, and decision-making styles, stress triggers, the role the person tends to take on in a team, and some numeric scales, such as energy level, attention to detail, and adaptability.

Do I need DISC certification to use the test?

No. The Coodesh DISC is administered and interpreted by the platform itself, and the report comes out in plain language for recruiters and leaders, with no certified analyst needed.

Is the DISC result sensitive data under the LGPD?

The DISC result is personal data, so it needs a legal basis, a clear purpose, and a defined retention period. It isn't on the list of sensitive data in article 5 of the LGPD (Brazil's data protection law), but profiling someone's behavior requires transparency with the candidate and a guarantee that they can request a review of a decision. At Coodesh, the result stays linked to the assessment in which it was taken, access is controlled by your company, and if you delete the workspace, the data is removed within 30 days.

Can I integrate it with my ATS?

Yes, we integrate with Gupy, Greenhouse, Lever, LinkedIn, Inhire, Recrut.ai, and other market-leading tools.

Do the tests have fraud prevention and cheating detection mechanisms?

We use active monitoring, IP tracking, video analysis, plagiarism detection, and behavioral analysis to ensure the integrity of the results.
